Plus considering how the distance IRL from Baker, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri is roughly 66miles, I guess we could potentially say that Metropolis in the show may actually be in Missouri, potentially? I can’t remember if we get a shot of Metropolis actually overlooking an ocean or lake though, so it’s possible it may actually be on a river that’s used for commercial shipping (Kansas City has a port that leads has routes to Chicago, New Orleans etc.) so it’s possible? The issue where is that within MAWS Metropolis is seemingly located by a large body of water accessible by big cargo ships, and according to Google the largest ocean or Great Lake to Kansas is appoximately 631miles (for the Gulf of Mexico, with the Atlantic around 900miles away) or roughly 550miles (to the Great Lakes) respectively. Usually Metropolis is on the East Coast (usually as a stand-in for the nicer parts of New York the same what that Gotham is the worse parts of NYC, but some people also place it in Delaware), but for the sake of simplifying the story some shows (such as Smallville) seemingly locate the city in Kansas instead. One thing that I’m currently trying to work out is where exactly the My Adventures With Superman version of Metropolis is located, given the distances provided in the sign by the Kents’ farm in episode one. annotated dc batman: gotham by gaslight elseworlds sherlock holmes harry houdini dc comics batman Houdini also met the Victorian version of Batman, although not necessarily the Gaslight version in the Elseworld Devil’s Workshop story. Although Doyle was more involved more of a tangential way, with his assisting in proving an Anglo-Indian man was a victim of racist prosecution by a rural police department, Houdini specialised in fake mediums and fraudulent supernatural things. Houdini was himself once friends with Holmes’ creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, and like Doyle occasionally investigated crimes as a side project. This code is from the Sherlock Holmes story, the Adventure of the Dancing Men, a 1903 story involving a violent stalker following a young woman to England from the United States.Īdditionally, Bruce also references Holmes himself as one of his “mentors“, by dropping the “ Once you’ve eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth“ quote.Īmusingly, Bruce also mentions having paid Harry Houdini for a few of his tricks (mainly escaping handcuffs). ![]() During the events of the Gotham in Gaslight movie, Bruce Wayne sends a message to Alfred written in the above code. ![]()
